Guide: How to use facial cupping

Facial cupping is a modern adaptation of traditional Chinese medicine, where cupping techniques have been used for centuries to promote blood circulation and relieve muscle tension. In facial cupping, small silicone cups are used that create a vacuum effect on the skin to stimulate blood flow and increase lymphatic drainage.

Benefits of facial cupping:

Improved blood circulation: Facial cupping helps increase blood flow to the face, resulting in more radiant and youthful looking skin.

Reduced Swelling: The vacuum effect can help reduce swelling and lymph stagnation, which can be particularly beneficial for those suffering from puffy eyes or facial oedema.

Stimulated collagen production: Facial cupping can help promote collagen production, which is crucial for the skin's elasticity and firmness, which we lose with age.

Relaxation of facial muscles: Facial cupping can also help relieve tension in the facial muscles, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as tension headaches.

How do you do it:

Step 1: Preparation

1.1 Get Cupping Tools: Invest in facial cupping kits that usually contain small silicone cups designed for facial use. You can buy SoulSkin AcuCups here.

1.2 Use a good face oil: Put 2-3 drops of nourishing oil in your hands and spread it over the face, neck and chest. This helps create slippage between the skin and the cupping tools. We recommend our Skin Therapy Facial Oil, which can be purchased here.

Step 2: Application of Facial Cupping

2.1 Start at the chest and work your way up the face : Preferably start from the center of the chest and work outwards. Continue at the center of the chin and work outwards. Be careful around the eye area and lips.

2.2 Create Vacuum: Lightly press the cups and release to create a vacuum. This creates a suction effect that stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.

2.3 Movement of Cups: Move cups in gentle outward and upward strokes or movements. Avoid leaving cups in the same place for too long to prevent suction marks.

TIP: Use the large cup for the larger areas of the body and face, e.g. chest, neck, jaw and forehead. Use the small cup for smaller areas such as eyes and lips.
